Madrid Book Fair

The 77th Edition of Madrid Book Fair was opened below the dark clouds which announced strong rainfalls. Despite this, the book fair was inaugurated and the typical booths were available to buy books from today 25th May to 10th June.

This year the guest country is Romania and it is very interesting because Spain is the country where a large proportion of the Romanian literature is translated. For this reason, Madrid wanted to promote the wealth of Romanian literature among Madrid citizens.

During the days where the book fair is taking places, more than 400 activities were proposed. These activities are made for people of different ages and areas and you can find them in the different spaces inside the Retiro Park. In addition, you can find a variety of Spanish authors signing their books. You can check here all the information, which author is your preferred?

Our favourite place is one that exposes classical books as Don Quijote by Miguel de Cervantes; the famous novel is considered the most influential work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age and the entire Spanish literary canon. Throughout the novel, Cervantes uses such literary techniques as realism, metatheatre, and intertextuality. Another novel which attracts our attention is Romeo and Juliet…we can’t stop reading this romantic novel which transports us back to a medieval world you will want to stay forever. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths reconcile their families. Romeo and Juliet are one of the most frequently performed plays. Nowadays, the title characters are regarded as archetypal young lovers. Finally, it is mandatory to mention the Spanish medieval novel called La Celestina: the comedy of Calisto and Melibea. This novel is really important for the Spanish culture because is considered to be one of the greatest works of all Spanish and it is very interesting to know that this novel marks the end of the medieval period and the beginning of the renaissance in Spanish literature.
